Microsoft PowerPoint: Slideshows and Presentations
PowerPoint is an app for creating and sharing presentations. It is a part of Microsoft Office lineup, initially developed in 1987, and later ported to mobile devices.
Design and navigation: Easy to Learn, Hard to Master
PowerPoint is very user friendly when it comes to simple presentations both on PC and on mobile. The design of the mobile app is pretty convenient, though it may take several minutes to figure out what is where. The navigation is very functional and repeats the PC version: tabs for different categories of features are fixed above the workspace, which makes it easier to start if you have previously used PowerPoint on PC. Creating slides and filling them with content is extremely simple, as long as you use Microsoft presets, built-in fonts and imported pictures. However, making unique and complicated presentations is pretty hard to master and requires learning.
Features and usability: Quick and Strong
PowerPoint app offers a wide range of features related to creating presentations: you can create slides, manage and rearrange them, import pictures and position them, create text boxes, choose fonts and sizes for text, add slide animations, draw on slides, change style themes, add tables, shapes and many more. The mobile version has the most features of PowerPoint for PC, just with a lower scale. There is also a number of options for editing, sharing and exporting presentations. You may synchronize the presentation through OneDrive, start working on your desktop and finish on mobile device. You may also give other users access to the presentation in order to edit it together in real-time. The presentation file can be exported to various cloud storages, including OneDrive, DropBox, Egnyte, Box, and many more.
Security: Microsoft Standards
The app is developed and managed by Microsoft, which should give you some certainty about the security of PowerPoint. It is safe to create and demonstrate presentations on your phone, and the rest depends on the way you export them. OneDrive seems to be the most convenient and safe option for PowerPoint.
Verdict: One of the Best
Despite there are other apps for making presentations, none of them has such a great integration with the desktop. PowerPoint allows to start on PC and finish on mobile. Being the most popular software for presentation on PC, choosing the mobile version as well makes sense.
Highlights:
- Powerful tool with almost all features of PC version;
- Editing on the go and synchronizing with PC;
- A variety of share and export features available.
Pitfalls:
- Mobile-exclusive presentation apps might be more convenient;
- Working with multiple objects on one slide is hard due to controls.
